What do the terms true self and self love mean?

This is how wikipedia explains the roots of the true self:

Donald Winnicott saw the true self as rooted from early infancy in the experience of being alive, including blood pumping and lungs breathing – what Winnicott called simply being.[4]

To find a definition for self love isn’t very easy. The definition of yourdictionary is the following:

Self love is the belief you hold that you are a valuable and worthy person.

An example of self love is when you have a positive view of yourself and are confident in yourself and your place in the world.

What does “True self”mean? When somebody tells you “this is not you” what does this mean to you?

Ekaterina Primorskaya, who is co-leading our retreat “find your sweet spot where it flows” in August in Switzerland is a body oriented psychologist. We went together through these interesting topics.

What does it mean to be your true self?

We would say that “True self” is a combination of the parts of us that we know and of the ones we hide. The more we can bring the unconscious parts to the surface, the better we know how to be ourselves.

Our voices are not changing depending on the person we talk to. The way to behave is almost the same, either with a child or with an adult, it doesn’t matter if you communicate with a famous person or with an ordinary man.

When we connect to our true self we do not betray ourselves and our dreams. We follow our call, our intuition, we trust our inner voice. We feel where to go and we know where to find our purpose.

How do you find your true self?

True self is about forgiving yourself, it’s about honesty and being brave to see the truth.

In the begging of this self-discovery trip, the road can look scary and even dark, but when your are there, it gives you freedom. That freedom that makes us equal and very special in the same time, the freedom to be your true self.

Now we talked about true self and self love - THIS means what?!

Everybody talks about “self-love”. But we have a feeling that very often people mix it up with egoistical behavior or even replace it with some care about their body. But they don‘t look deeper: what they really want and love.

What does it mean to have self love?

If you feel the same before and after your practice, then you didn’t get the meaning of loving yourself.
 
Then there is no lightness, acceptance, calmness and happy moments come rarely.
 

We are not able to give you a recipe here, there has to be done some work by yourself. The understanding comes in a moment when you see your old patterns. When your values change and your heart becomes more open.

That‘s why we dedicate a whole week in our retreat “Find your sweet spot” to this topic. You have to get your own experience to find this real self-love.

What is inner peace?

Peace of mind, serenity, and calmness are descriptions of a disposition free from the effects of stress. In some cultures, inner peace is considered a state of consciousness or enlightenment that may be cultivated by various forms of training, such as prayer, meditation, tai chi or yoga, for example.

This might sound quite abstract… We aren’t scientists and love to experience. Going through these questions may give you a picture if you are experiencing inner peace:

  • Do you often take full responsibility for how you react to others?
  • In difficult situations you surrender and accept what is?
  • You don’t have many things unresolved?
  • Are you conscious about and sensitive to feelings rather than ignoring them?

how can you find inner peace through practicing?

The process to your inner peace is very individual. What ever practice you chose, it will always include self-acceptance and self-love. For some people this process of letting go may be a very simple one, for others it’s a long and hard journey.

However, we should try not to take this work toooo serious! The more we want to achieve inner peace and self-love, the further away we get.
Please remember to smile, joke and be gentle to yourself while practicing our following recommendations. It can be that some techniques just don’t fit you! Then try another one!

  • reconnect to your inner child – be the old you
  • sound healing with your voice
  • connect to nature via meditation

  • work with different body parts by releasing blockages in the fascia of your body
