the heartwood philosophyThe ultimate aim of a deeply rooted life isn't merely to survive the changing elements. It is to become a Steward—honoring the soil you stand on, governing your unique capabilities with steady integrity, and lifting those you encounter along the way.
We move through the natural growth rings of Ground, Grit, and Grace not solely for outward achievement, but to reach the pinnacle of true Growth. This is where our inner core becomes unshakeable, and where our resources, our wisdom, and our stories are naturally used to serve a purpose far larger than ourselves.
the founderAmber Richards, MPA, SHRM-SCP
My truest credentials aren’t found on my resume; they were cultivated through the lived experience of my own changing seasons.
While my discipline was tempered as an Air Force SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape) Specialist and my perspective sharpened through years in HR and Operations, I have learned that true leadership requires more than managing people and systems. It requires the quiet wisdom earned only by navigating the heavy elements of your own wilderness.
As a lover of deep-woods adventure and epic stories of human endurance, the words of Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton have always resonated deeply with me:
“We had seen God in His splendors, heard the text that Nature renders. We had reached the naked soul of man.”
Though not to the Shackletonian extreme, I have walked that trail—both in the literal wild and through the unforgiving landscapes of professional burnout and intense personal transition. I believe it is only when we are stripped down to the heartwood that the true beauty of our struggle and the timeless design of our roots are finally revealed.
It is in that space that we develop a heartwood core that is hard as woodpecker lips.
Roots & Reconciliation
This stripping down is where my faith and my work meet. The further into the wild I go, the more I am invited to reconcile human effort with the enduring laws of the Creator. In the moments where I recognize the natural limits of my own strength, I encounter the infinite grace of God.
My perspective is rooted in this Christian foundation—refined by my own missteps, stumbles, outright faceplants, and the times I tried to navigate the terrain entirely on my own.
When the soil shifted beneath my feet, my faith was the one unmoving bedrock that allowed me to take root again. Ground & Grow is fueled by my story of being reclaimed; it is living proof that no matter how dense the thicket, you are never too far into the wilderness to find your way back to steady ground.
Today, I translate my experience into a roadmap for others. This space is more than just a waypoint for the weary traveler; it is designed to provide the structural renewal required to cultivate a life of consequence.
the inner architectureOur methodology is built upon a simple truth: the forest teaches us that seasons are necessary and that sustainable growth cannot be rushed. By aligning our internal rhythms with the timeless laws of nature, our core alignment remains constant even when the world outside feels chaotic. Utilizing four concentric growth rings, we form the internal governance required to weather the seasons of life while planting seeds along the way.
Ground | Roots & Heartwood: Securing your roots into an unmoving bedrock—your faith, higher purpose, or foundational anchor—to directly nourish and build your heartwood core. Just as deep roots draw sustenance from the earth to harden timber, your primary beliefs are what define, feed, and fortify your unbending convictions and values. We strip away the external static to firm the soil beneath you, ensuring the very center of your architecture is unshakeable before the world demands that you expand. #builtbelowground
Grit | The Outer Armor: Building the durable outer armor required to absorb environmental friction, protect your core values, and hold the line under pressure. #hardaswoodpeckerlips
Grace | The Inner Sapwood: Nourishing the flexible inner sapwood to prevent your core from becoming brittle, allowing for active mending, intentional recovery, and rest. #savortheseason
Grow | The Practice of Stewardship: Reaching the pinnacle of true stewardship, where your resources, unique capabilities, and legacy naturally expand to serve a purpose larger than yourself. #findyougrowtrue
These growth rings are not a linear checklist to be completed, nor do they develop in isolation. They form a fluid, living ecosystem that is personal to you. In any given season, you may find yourself fortifying the rugged outer armor of your Grit to protect you from the elements, while simultaneously needing restorative Grace to mend a brittle core.
Personal Governance: The Internal Current Perspective is the ultimate provision. Personal Governance—your mindset—is the life-giving current that flows through every single ring of your character. It is the mental fluidity and internal authority that ensures your core stays anchored, your internal rhythms stay steady, and your focus remains clear through changing climates. #mindsetinmotion
Good Roots
This framework is faith-based and rooted in a Christian worldview, built on the conviction that our values, resilience, and grace are ultimately defined by and received through a personal relationship with Christ. However, walking this trail does not require or force a specific faith. The architectural principles of the Heartwood Charter are universal, designed to build an unshakeable core for anyone willing to examine their foundation and do the heavy work.
While I provide the human-centered guidance and the structural architecture to fortify your core, true, enduring stability comes from making sure your anchor is secure. I won’t push you to hustle or chase empty altitude. I provide a dedicated, honest partnership to help you steward your unique capabilities, nourish your heartwood, and walk your specific terrain with confidence.
Join me on the trail.

sourcing philosophyRooted in Purpose
At Ground & Grow, we believe that the soul of an object is found in its origin. How a thing is made is just as vital as the purpose it serves or the joy it brings. We don't just "stock products"—we curate provisions for the journey, ensuring every item in our collection is as intentional as the life you are building.
Artisan Made & US-Based
We believe in the power of the local forge and the quiet studio. We intentionally partner with small, US-based businesses that prioritize ethical craftsmanship and eco-friendly manufacturing to the greatest extent possible. From the wheel-thrown ceramics that hold your morning coffee to the organic teas that soothe your nervous system, our goods are hand-crafted by skilled artisans who share our commitment to quality, conscience, and the "slow grow" movement.
Purposeful, Not Plentiful
In a world of shallow soil and disposable goods, we choose depth. We strive to maximize the impact of every dollar while minimizing our footprint on the earth. You won’t find excessive plastic, "filler" items, or excessive throwaway packaging here. Instead, we lean into multi-use, for-purpose design. Whether it’s a natural jute and leather tote or a vibrant tea towel that serves as a soft liner today and a kitchen essential tomorrow, our provisions are built to last.
A Legacy of Kindness
When you bring a Ground & Grow piece into your home or office, you aren't just making a purchase; you are supporting a vast network of independent makers, organic farmers, and small-batch creators. We view this as a legacy of kindness. It is our way of ensuring that the "growth" we champion extends far beyond the individual—it reaches the hands and homes of the people who poured their heart into the craft.
